‘’Because love alone is not always enough;
international adoption seen differently’’

About us

International adoption has been popular in Quebec for many years.

International adoption has been popular in Quebec for many years, however, full adoption is the preferred type of adoption in Quebec and cuts all ties between the child and his or her biological family. While this type of adoption does protect the emotional and basic needs of the adopted child, we believe that it neglects another need, their identity.

As clinical social workers specializing in international adoption, we wanted to create this website in order to educate the international adoption community in regards to the question of origin in the process of developing an identity for adopted children. We wish to give adopted children, their parents, their families and concerned professionals a platform that they can use to share and exchange question and ideas dealing with the origin in the process of developing an identity for children adopted internationally and raised here in Quebec. Our promise is to listen to and support anyone that wishes to share their own personal experiences or anyone that wishes to know more about the issues of origin and identity that adopted children deal with. Our goal is to offer a new line of thought for policy makers, adoption agencies and other professionals, as well as anyone involved in the process of international adoption.
We propose various options such as psychosocial consultations, workshops, conferences on adoptions, intimate meetings at cafes, as well as a forum that offers adopted children and their families a chance to express themselves and share their experiences with international adoption.

Our Mission

To know where you are going, you must understand where you are from.

We believe that while they are a great place to start, love and care are simply not enough for a healthy and balanced development, and that the adults of tomorrow must also know their personal history to understand their future… L’adoption&Moi.com pledges to listen to, support and educate the different agents (adopted children, their parents, and the professionals that support these families) when it comes to the question of origin in the process of developing an identity for internationally adopted children.
We want to shine a light on the importance of the idea of origin in the process of developing an identity for adopted children to better equip them for the difficulties they may face in their life that can come with being raised in a new country. We feel that internationally adopted children need to have their identity needs cared for just as much as they require love, nourishment, shelter and other basic needs, because all of these are important elements when it comes to making sure tomorrow’s adults reach their full potential.
